Jason James Richter was born on the 29th January 1980 in Medford, Oregon. At the age of three he and his parents moved to Honolulu, Hawaii. It was there, on Waikiki beach, that he learned to swim and began to get fascinated by the sea and its inhabitants. A japanese casting agency signed him up for three spots that were shown in Japan. In 1989 his family returned to the states and today he lives in Los Angeles.
At the age of twelve he was chosen out of 4000 canidates to play the role of Jesse in Free Willy. When they picked him, he had no idea that he was supposed to work with a three ton Orca. The producers sent Jason down to Mexico three weeks before the shooting started so he and Keiko could get used to one another. Seeing Keiko for the first time, he was a bit scared. "I wondered if he would bite off my hand if I try to pet him." But there was no need to worry: after one week Keiko happily reacted to Jasons handsignals. His acting talents earned him two MTV-Movie-Award nominations, one in the "Best Breakthrough Performance" category (and if MTV was owned by Warner, he would have won).
Free Willy 1, 2, & 3! He was also in Cops and Robbersons and The Neverending Story 3. He hasn't done much else unfortunately. He did guest star on Sabrina the Teen-aged Witch. |
