Joyce Summers
played by Kristine Sutherland

Joyce is Buffy's mother. Her character has seen a radical change from the movie where she seemed tasteless and didn't care at all what Buffy did. However, in the series Joyce cares deeply about her daughter, and she seems to have developed taste and runs an art gallery. In the first two seasons Joyce was unaware of her daughter's role as the Slayer. When she did eventually find out, things did not go well and she threw Buffy out of the house. After being without Buffy for a while she realised what she had done and began to accept Buffy's role as a slayer fighting demons.
In one episode, Joyce and Giles are young again, thanks to a spell. But just in there mind, not body. Well anyhow, Giles and Joyce falls in love, they kiss and do other stuff teenagers like to do. And Buffy are the one that has to be a grown up..
Joyce Summers works at an art gallery, where she acquires and sells art pieces. She is divorced from Hank Summers, whom she met at a Homecoming dance during her freshman year of college. She is often frustrated by Buffy, because she doesn't confide in Joyce enough and is often getting into trouble. Joyce remained oblivious to the fact that Buffy was the Slayer until Buffy finally told her the truth at the end of season two. Joyce has come to accept it, as much as she can, but she doesn't like it, and she worries about Buffy. Despite this, the two seem to have a good relationship. Joyce hasn't dated a lot since her divorce; she did get pretty serious with Ted, who turned out to be a robot-doppelganger of a guy from the fifties who had killed his past four wives. She has also shown interest in Giles, and when they were under the influence of poisoned band candy, the two had sex; they have avoided each other and the subject since then. Joyce hasn't been a central part of Buffy's life this year, now that Buffy's living on campus.
