When "scum" was released 1987, the band set out on their first tour of any length. Then there was an other line up switch, Shane Embury replaced Whitely on bass, then they went on to record two John Peel Radio sessions, had tracks on the "North Atlantic Noise Attack" and "Pathological" compilations, and they also recorded a split flexi with SOB. In August 1989 they released the mind shattering "From Enslavement to Obliteration" LP, which features 54 tracks on CD. After that came a six track 12" called "Mentally Murdered".
The band jumped on the European Grindcrusher tour with Carcass, Bolt Thrower and Morbid
Angel, then they flew out for their first American show in New York. after that a
second guitarist was drafted in with the shape of Mitch Harris (former Righteous Pigs). This lineup recorded The "Harmony Corruption" LP at the studio Morrisound in
Florida USA. The song "Suffer the Children" was released both as a 7" and a 12" and it showed the bands change to a more Death Metal kinda´style. Though´ the album proved to be their
most successful ever, the band didn´t like that clinical sound on the production on "Harmony corruption", and haven´t worked with Scott Burns sense then. In between tours, the band
went into a tiny studio in Birmingham and recorded four new tracks for the EP called
"Mass Appeal Madness".
Mick Harris, the only member left from "Scum", decided to leave Napalm Death in 92, And founded the ambient dub kinda´ style band Scorn, and his place was filled out by Danny
Herrara. An
extensive US tour with Sepultura, Sick of It All and Sacred Riech
followed, they also took a short trip to Russia, and played to a combined audience of 14000 over two diffrent shows.
Then they went back to the studio, as a result, the band releashed "Utopia Banished". And another 12" saw the daylight,
this time a the three track recording in the form of "The World Keeps Turning". United with U.S.A.s Obituary and the Swedish death metal band Dismember the band toured around Europe once again as part of the
"Campaign for Musical Destruction" tour, one of the places they played at was Bergslags rocken in Fagersta, Sweden. This was the first time I had the pleasure to meet up with the guys and see them play. Then they continued touring in the States
with Carcass, Brutal Truth and Cathedral. Then in 1993, a compilation; "Death By Manipulation" was issued, featuring the best Napalm Death had done so far.
After they had played in South Africa with the highly charged atmosphere, Napalm Death decided to record a cover of the Dead Kennedy's "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" which was released as a 7" all the proceeds goes to Anti-Nazi organizations.
After loads of hard work in the studio they released "Fear Emptiness Despair" in 1994. Napalm then recorded "Diatribes", and a mini-LP named "Greed Killing". After more touring (I saw them play at the Roskilde Festival 1995, see a picture I took of Shane on this page) they released a mini-CD called "Breed to breathe", on it you can olso find a CD-rom video. And also the fullength CD "Inside the torn apart". Barney was sacked from Napalm in 1997 and joined Extreme noise terror. And Phil Vane from Extreme noise terror became Napalms new singer. But after having recorded one record with Extreme noise terror, Barney joined Napalm again. In time for the recording of their latest CD "Words from the exit wound", that came out in 1998.
